Application Fraud Checks
This page outlines the various fraud checks we complete on behalf of our customers during the application review process.
Fraud Check Explanations
When someone applies for credit, we run automated fraud checks in the background. These checks apply to any applicant — the initial user, signer, or both. Results are grouped into:
✅ Success → Green light
⚠️ Warning → Worth a closer look
🚨 Threat → High risk
✅ Success (Green Lights)
IP Passed Security: The internet address looks safe and valid.
State Match: The person’s internet location is in the same state as the company.
Postal Match: The person’s internet location is in the same postal code as the company.
Email Passed Security: The email is valid and not free or disposable.
Domain Match: The email domain matches the company’s official website.
⚠️ Warning (Gray Areas)
Proxy / VPN Detected: They might be logging in through a VPN, proxy, or cloud server. Could be normal (like a work VPN) or suspicious.
Different State: The person is logging in from a different state than the company.
Location Missing: We couldn’t confirm the internet location (missing data).
Free Email: They’re using Gmail, Yahoo, etc. Fine for individuals, less common for companies.
Company Website Missing: We couldn’t confirm the email domain against the company’s website (no data available).
IP Overlap With Trade Reference: The applicant or a trade reference is using the same internet address. Could mean they’re related, or could be a red flag.
IP Match With Applicant/Signer: A trade reference shares the same internet address as the applicant or signer.
🚨 Threat (Red Flags)
Invalid IP: The internet address isn’t valid (rare, but serious).
IP Threat: The internet address is flagged as unsafe or abusive.
Different Country: The person’s internet location is in another country from the company.
Disposable Email: They’re using a temporary or throwaway email.
Domain Mismatch: The email doesn’t match the company’s official website.
👉 In short: Fraud checks catch mismatches between who’s applying and the company they claim to represent, so you can move faster on good applications and stop bad ones before they slip through.
Green means go, yellow means slow down, red means stop and check.
